Baltic Cruising Part 5: Tallinn, Estonia

Travel gurus such as Rick Steves and Rudy Maxa have been to Tallinn & given us a preview of the city. Now the girlie & I have been there & the city is even prettier than seen on the travel shows.

For the visitor, the city is viewed in 2 parts; the high town and the low town. We'll start in the high town behind stone fortifications.

Inside the walls, an Orthodox church.

We were able to go in while a service was in progress, but no photos.

Looking down & into the more modern part of the city.

Walking down the narrow stone streets heading to the lower section.

Once in the lower section, this gent expressed his desire to invite people into his pub.

We did not go into his pub, but this was a cafe tour. We stopped in 3 locations for tea & sweets.

This young lady was our tour guide. Well traveled herself with a masters degree. She came back  home to Tallinn to make her career.

Part of the market square.

One of numerous guild houses.

Looking up a side street.

Our second tea stop was modeled in 1920s style.

Our third tea stop was a cozy spot that could have been someones' dining room. This was a popular location with plenty of inside & outside tables that were all in use.

Just a comfortable old town. Meets my approval. Tourist with cameras included.

Someone found fresh cut flowers.

More guild houses.

Exiting the old city. Modernization in the background.

One last look.

In the harbor, we had company. Mein Schiff 1 is a new, huge German liner from TUI Cruises. Length 315 meters (1033 ft.) with capacity of 2,894 passengers.

The Journey is big, but not that big. 594 feet with a capacity of 694 passengers. This ship was not crowded & the service is excellent.

Europe has transportation in hand. This was an outgoing overnight ferry about the size of the Journey

Up next: 3 days in St. Petersburg, Russia! Eye popping palaces and cathedrals.
