A Quick Getaway To The Mountains

We needed a bit of de-stress time. With cooler temperatures, a trip to the NC mountains was in order. These photos are quick snapshots, nothing artsy or dramatic.

This was our first try at a Bed & Breakfast. If other similar establishments are comparable to the Taylor House Inn, we'll do this again.

Mobile phone reception? One bar if you stand in the right spot. For this type of trip, lack of communication is quite fine.

Built in 1911, this old home is quite comfortable. And of breakfast? Excellent.

 The view from Grandfather Mountain.

 Another view from Grandfather Mountain.

 And another.

This bridge is billed as the "Mile High Swinging Bridge".

Take a look at the cabling under the bridge. It's not going anywhere.

With these monsters holding in place, the "swing" may be 2 inches in either direction.

 On to Mt. Mitchell.
Take a very good look. It was warm, sunny & no breeze.
We are usually on Mt. Mitchell with freezing wind, cloud cover and rain.

Blue Ridge is the proper term. When once traveling through the Panama Canal, we were opposite a Japanese auto carrier named Blue Ridge Highway instead of Blue Ridge Parkway. Somebody goofed on the naming of the ship. See an earlier blog
https://picasaweb.google.com/jaayteejaay/PanamaCanal2011
to see for yourself.

 Sudden desire for a hang glider . . . . .

The old tower has been replaced by an observation deck. Much better.

 Touristy photo.

Mast General Store. A neat old place to prowl through.

I'm old enough to remember purchasing ESSO fuel. Now it's a collectors sign.

What to do for present day prices?

 Traveling is tiring stuff. So . . . .

This front porch was the afternoon social spot. Several glasses of wine, good books and good conversations with other fellow travelers.

A road less traveled. Or so one thinks. There were some very nice homes tucked into the side roads.

And lovely little spots like this.

 And this.

 Same here.

The road went further than I cared to walk at that moment. Gives me a good reason to go back and finish the trek.
